Data is continuously collected and analyzed in order to map out the relationships held by employees within the company. The software reviews email headers (never the body or subject of the email), address book contents, and other data sources from readily accessible servers, including CRM and SFA systems.

BranchIt's privacy features protect both the relationships between the requester and the relationship-holder as well as that of the relationship-holder and the target individual. The software enables a requester to view aggregated statistics in order to evaluate the strength of a link between a relationship-holder and his or her contacts. For example, a high frequency of emails from the target individual to the relationship-holder likely indicates the target individual has a strong connection with the relationship-holder.
